Ferrante & Teicher: You Light up My Life
A piano duo, Arthur Ferrante and Louis Teicher met while both were studying
at Juilliard in the late '40s. After years of being guests in front of large orchestras and cutting several
cleverly arranged duo albums, they hit their stride in the early '60s with a string of lush orchestrated
hit singles and albums based around their interlocking piano style.
The duo covered "Theme from the Last Waltz",
the 3/4 time waltz instrumental from the Band's triple album
The Last Waltz, on their 1978 LP
You Light Up My Life.
According to information posted in the guestbook at The Band web site,
neither Ferrante nor Teicher had any interest
personally in recording this selection.
It was "forced" upon
them by their record label, United Artists Records,
and also released as a promotional single for the movie.
