Bobby GreggBobby Gregg, who had played on Dylan's albums Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited, was the first to take over the drum stool after Levon Helm left the Hawks in November 1965, while they were touring as Bob Dylan's band. Gregg only stayed with the Hawks for about a month, playing several shows and also recording with Dylan and the Hawks in Hollywod's Sunset Sound Studio. Gregg's successor on drums was Sandy Konikoff.Bobby Gregg has had quite an interesting career. He's played drums on all kinds of recordings; pop, rock, folk, folk-rock, jazz, etc. (including records by Paul Simon, Peter, Paul & Mary, and John Cale.) He's also been a producer and A&R man for CBS and Epic Records. Gregg produced Erma Franklin's "Abracadabra", Frank Hunter's "Song Of Mexico" (Frank arranged and conducted Erma's "Abracadabra") and Richard "Popcorn" Wylie's "Do You Still Care For Me/Marlene" (He also played drums on one of those songs) All of these singles were released on Epic Records. Bobby Gregg's only solo effort is the 1963 album Let's Stomp and Wild Weekend (Epic BN-26051), credited to Bobby Gregg & His Friends. There is also a 45 single on the Cotton Label (Cotton 1003) listed as Bobby Gregg and his Friends, "The Jam Part 1" b/w "The Jam Part 2."
